darknlovelytruths asked: I love this blog!! I went natural for the first time in July 2011 and its really cool to sort of have a blog that is going through this difficult process with me. I love my coils!! I feel as if I have a whole beauty supply store in my house because of all the products I had to experiment with, but I am happy to say that I have finally found the right products!! The only problem is now my hair experiences a lot of shrinkage when I wash it. Do you have any suggestions to reduce my shrinkage?

hey sis!  thanks so much for the kind words!

shrinkage is just pretty much something we have to learn to deal and live with at the very least.  best case scenario:  accept and embrace it!  personally, i LOVE shrinkage.  ive never been a length miser… i dont mind my hair drawing up, as long as it looks good.  but most importantly, when my hair draws up, it feels its strongest, healthiest, and most moisturized.  i feel like when it’s all coiled and curled up, it has everything it needs and is at its most resilient.  when it DOESNT draw up, it’s being lazy and is probably in need of some tender loving care.

that’s just me and my hair and my thoughts though.  i don’t know of any products or methods that can keep hair from shrinking, other than using stretching styles, like twist-outs, braid-outs, and knot-outs.

i say embrace it, though.  i think of it like making a muscle.  when your hair shrinks and contracts, it’s flexing!  lol it’s showing you how strong it is!  when it just lays there, it’s defenseless and more vulnerable to getting jumped by the elements and being hurt.   i love it!
